W15239-2 Flute Ball Cutter
Information:
The customer came to WINCO looking for tooling help on their current Chiron line that machines the compressor housing pistons. Carbide Ball Pocket cutters were the only tools that gave them consistency in the past. Tool life and a tight spherical tolerance brought WINCO to this PCD application. Prior tool life for the carbide cutters was at 3,000 hits per tool, the PCD Ball cutter is at 19,000 and still climbing. Cycle time was reduced by making a single pass interpolation tool where there used to be two passes at a slower spindle speed and feed rate.
